January 22, 2003 - High Court Declines Pic SuitNEW ORLEANS --- The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday said it won't consider a lawsuit blaming violent movies and other entertainment for a school shooting in Kentucky in 1997. The $33 million lawsuit was brought against Hollywood by families of the three girls killed in the 1997 shooting. Five students were also wounded. Families said 14-year-old Michael Carneal shot the girls as a result of watching violent entertainment. Last year, a federal appeals court threw out the lawsuit, saying entertainment products are protected by the First Amendment. In all matters involving wrongful death it is essential that measures be taken promptly to preserve evidence, investigate the accident in question, and to file a lawsuit prior to the deadline imposed by the statute of limitations.
